Kilrea 10         3rd April 2007

First 10 of the season

It was cycling nirvana (well almost): another warm and still evening on the Kilrea Road greeted 16 club members on Tuesday the 3rd April for the first '10' mile time trial of the season. Ryan Bratton was the fastest youth rider setting a time of 16mins 31secs for five miles, beating an ever improving Blane Watton. The club vets showed their intentions early and the first real marker for the night was set by the evergreen Jim Canning who scorched home in 26mins 31secs. This time set the benchmark for the first ten riders and it topped the leader board until a time of 25 mins 35secs was set by Gary Kendall whose time was, in turn, rapidly eclipsed by Mark Smyth (twenty five mins 28 secs) and obliterated by the fastest man on the night, John Madden, who set a time of 23 mins 37 secs. Kay Hack was first lady (28mins 34 secs). The club would like to thank the marshalls Sarah Chestnutt, Ian Nevin and Dave Park for providing a safe riding environment and for time keeping. The next event is a ten mile time trial on the Ballybogey Rd, (starts 2 miles on Portrush side of Ballybogey) with Derek McDonald and Robert Watton to marshall. Start at 7:00 prompt.
